Today, the West Pier in Brighton stands in the sea as a raw and beautiful iron carcass as one of England’s most iconic and historic ruins. Around 1919 the Pier attracted over 2 million visitors a year. Due to its closure in 1975, decades of decay, severe weather and two mysterious fires that were never solved, the building now stands as a haunting monument in time and memory. Its skeletal silhouette continues to captivate all who gaze upon it. The ruin has become an important habitat for seabirds and marine life.
